NURS FPX 4010 Assessment 2 Interview and Interdisciplinary Issue Identification

Student Name Capella University NURS4010 Leading in Intrprof Practice Prof. Name Date Interview and Interdisciplinary Issue Identification As part of my assessment, I interviewed a nurse who provided valuable insights into the issues and potential in the healthcare organization. Based on the interview, a report is prepared indicating an issue that could benefit from an interdisciplinary approach. In addition, the best practices are examined through available evidence to address this issue using change theories, leadership strategies, and collaboration approaches.  Interview Summary During the interview, I talked with Rose, a nurse and a team leader from United Hospital. As a senior nurse, her primary tasks include monitoring workflow, including task tracking and assignment, serving as the first point of contact for team inquiries and issues, and assisting new team members’ onboarding. She is also in charge of resolving unusual problems by working with team members, leadership, and other divisions within the hospital. During the interview, I used open-ended questions to enable the interviewee to provide in-depth responses, allowing for a wide range of answers and promoting comprehensive data gathering. Researchers frequently use open-ended questions because of their ability to generate comprehensive participant perspectives (Gaur et al., 2020). NURS FPX 4010 Assessment 2 Interview and Interdisciplinary Issue Identificationv A significant concern mentioned during the interview was the lack of effective communication between healthcare professionals and between nurses and patients. It happens particularly during periods of ongoing workflow and process modifications. She described that due to a lack of communication between interdisciplinary teams and nurses and patients in the emergency department, the process changes were not regularly conveyed immediately to all team members, resulting in confusion and disruptions in task completion and affecting patient safety. This affects the completion ability of work on time by creating confusion among team members. To United Hospital has previously implemented communication training and interdisciplinary team meetings to address communication difficulties, but they were partially successful. The hospital promotes a collaborative atmosphere, particularly in the emergency department, where Rose’s broad interdisciplinary team expertise highlights the crucial significance of excellent communication in maintaining patient safety and operational efficiency. Issue Identification Lack of efficient communication among interprofessional teams and between nurses and patients is the primary cause of the high number of medical errors in any healthcare organization. Lack of communication, delayed diagnosis, redundant testing, prescription errors, and impaired patient outcomes can all result from insufficient information flow during care transitions. An interdisciplinary collaborative approach can deliver effective communication between healthcare departments, which is crucial for reducing the risks of limited information conveyed and improving overall patient care quality (Hlescu et al., 2019). With the help of interprofessional team education and training programs, healthcare workers better know one another’s roles and responsibilities and learn how to interact with patients. These programs attempt to improve communication and collaboration among healthcare practitioners and nurse patients (Irajpour et al., 2019), eventually improving patient care and outcomes.  Change Theories Leading to an Interdisciplinary Solution The Plan-Do-Study-Act (PDSA) is a four-stage repetitive model for solving a problem or implementing a change. It involves planning a change, implementing it using all available resources and knowing the possible consequences, studying the results and effects on the stakeholders, and then acting on what was learned to improve further. It is a continuous cycle for refining any process and achieving better outcomes. A study by Pan et al. (2022) advocates that by implementing this model, organizations can benefit from interprofessional teamwork in improving the overall quality of work. The change theories are the best practices that can improve an organization’s process and working behaviors. One such change theory was proposed by Lippitt in 1973. This theory consists of seven steps: Identify and diagnose the problem comprehensively by analyzing the possible consequences and determining the stakeholders. Assess motivation and capability for change by analyzing financial and human resource capacities. Evaluate the change and the agent’s drive and resources for initiating and sustaining the change. NURS FPX 4010 Assessment 2 Interview and Interdisciplinary Issue Identification Choose revolutionary change goals by outlining the change process, creating action plans and strategies, and clarifying the change agent’s role to all employees by portraying them as an expert in implementing change. Sustain the change by constructive feedback and communication, Gradually dismiss the supportive relationship with the change agent (Adelman et al., 2023). Implementing this theory will encourage interdisciplinary collaborations in healthcare as the change can not be implemented with only one individual. The change agent will lead this by collaborating and communicating with other members on the smooth implementation of any change, reducing the communication gap. The literature cited here fits in CRAAP criteria as it is recently published and credible as the authors of the cited articles have an excellent research profile in this feild, and the journals are also very reputable. They have explained the topics of planned changes extensively. Leadership Strategies Leading to an Interdisciplinary Solution Nurse leaders play a critical role in the healthcare system by employing interpersonal skills, conflict resolution, and adaptability. Through transformational they mentor and guide trainee nurses, setting an example for potential future leaders in the profession. Conflict resolution is vital for addressing differences in viewpoints among the healthcare team, which will improve interprofessional collaboration and patient satisfaction. Effective communication is essential for creating a cooperative culture in the healthcare industry. Furthermore, nurse leaders must constantly evolve and communicate effectively to navigate the dynamic healthcare sector (Chika, 2023). NURS FPX 4010 Assessment 2 Interview and Interdisciplinary Issue Identification Democratic leadership is recommended in scenarios where time is not a constraint. The leader lacks necessary information or  divergence of interests between leaders and subordinates. It effectively builds trust and achieves consensus among followers (Rosing et al., 2022). It also improves the interprofessional teams’ relationship with their mutual collaborations and communications. The cited literature in this context holds credibility and relevance. The referenced articles are recently published in well-reputed journals, and the authors have notable research profiles within the domain, adding to the credibility of the information. The articles thoroughly delve

NURS FPX 4010 Assessment 1 Collaboration and Leadership Reflection Video

Student Name Capella University NURS4010 Leading in Intrprof Practice Prof. Name Date Introduction Greetings, I am Iris, and I am pleased to present a fascinating video that explores interprofessional collaboration and leadership practices in nursing. The coordinated and collaborative efforts of healthcare professionals from different disciplines, such as effective patient communication, leadership, and creating a supportive environment, are referred to as interprofessional collaboration in healthcare. The advantages of interprofessional cooperation include reduced death rates, readmission rates, and prescription errors, as well as improved patient healthcare plan standards (Brashers et al., 2019). In clinical settings, nurses must establish cooperative connections with other healthcare staff, ultimately improving patient outcomes. I will share my personal experience on interprofessional collaboration and leadership practices. One day, during my working hours in the emergency department, a patient came there suffering from a sudden cardiac arrest. The urgency of the situation required quick and coordinated action. NURS FPX 4010 Assessment 1 Collaboration and Leadership Reflection Video There needed to be more clarity about who should lead the response in the initial moments. This created moments of hesitation and uncertainty, which, in an emergency, can be harmful. The confused nature of the emergency highlighted communication breakdowns and a lack of clear leadership. After some confusion, our team of healthcare professionals came together with a shared commitment to saving her life. The cardiologist, respiratory therapist, and doctors worked effortlessly, communicating effectively and each taking on their roles with dedication. This interprofessional collaboration allowed us to stabilize the patient and save her life. This collaborative tale underscores the incredible impact of teamwork, where each healthcare professional’s unique expertise weaved together to create a comprehensive care journey, ultimately leading to improved patient outcomes and a significantly better quality of life. Reflection on an Interdisciplinary Collaboration Experience The experience above has some positive and negative aspects, which are the following: Positive Aspects As a nurse, I was crucial in facilitating effective communication and coordination among the healthcare team. Interprofessional collaboration was an example of healthcare professionals uniting to save a patient’s life. Their combined expertise ensured a comprehensive assessment and rapid decision-making. Effective communication played a vital role in ensuring clarity in roles and responsibilities. Despite initial leadership challenges, the team ultimately unified, highlighting their adaptability and commitment to prioritizing patient care. Negative Aspects Initially, there needed to be more evident leadership, causing hesitation and uncertainty among team members. This highlights the importance of having designated emergency leaders to ensure a well-coordinated response. Communication issues at the outset of the emergency led to some confusion and delays. In high-stress situations, misunderstandings can occur, emphasizing the need for effective communication protocols. The scenario revealed the need for better preparation and training. Emergency response training should emphasize clear leadership roles and effective communication to avoid confusion and promote efficient teamwork. Reflective Nursing Practice for Improved Future Decisions Reflective nursing promotes vital communication, better patient care, and professional development. Better outcomes for patients and medical teams result from allowing nurses to reflect on their experiences, make educated choices, and constantly improve their abilities. The critical self-reflection and shared learning of healthcare professionals is conducted through techniques like group meetings, interviews, and journaling. NURS FPX 4010 Assessment 1 Collaboration and Leadership Reflection Video Combining a collaborative approach with action research equips nurses to improve continuous care quality, ultimately increasing patient well-being. The convergence of self-improvement and evidence-based care is where reflective nursing practice excels, suggesting significant changes in the profession (Moreno et al., 2022). Poor Collaboration in Inefficient Management of Human And Financial Resources Human Resources After going through the Vila Health scenario, it became evident that effective interdisciplinary collaboration in healthcare is necessary to streamline the workflow. In this case, the poor collaboration from the higher management created an agitated and tiring environment for all human resources, especially the nursing staff. The absence of communication within a healthcare team leads to delayed responses, endangered patients, and a lack of trust among team members. A former study by Nyaaba et al. (2020) showed that the inability to communicate and poor collaboration is one of the reasons behind the hypertension of health professionals. These factors in the Vila health case also contribute to job dissatisfaction and stressful work environments. Also, the over-strained nurses can not provide excellent care to patients. Financial Resources Financial challenges in healthcare often stem from poor collaboration among healthcare professionals and departments. In the vila health scenario, the lack of communication and interprofessional collaboration created financial liabilities such as delayed projects. Implementing the EHR system in Vila Health increased the time for data management as nurses found difficulties in using this system. Financial challenges in healthcare due to poor collaboration highlight how healthcare funding, financing models, and human resources can impact access to healthcare services. These factors can lead to disparities in access, quality, and cost of care. Addressing these challenges necessitates multidimensional approaches involving government policies, healthcare providers, and communities to ensure equitable and accessible healthcare for all individuals (Cu et al., 2021). Best-Practice Leadership Strategies Best-practice leadership strategies in interprofessional collaboration involve the development of effective teamwork and communication among professionals from various disciplines. Some best practice leadership strategies are: Strong Leadership Strong leadership is crucial in multi-professional collaboration as it provides direction, ensures adherence to best-practice strategies, and fosters a cohesive team environment. According to Watson (2020), effective leadership empowers professionals to work collaboratively, navigate challenges, and ultimately deliver higher-quality care and services. Practical and positive leadership is essential for successive communication among team members. NURS FPX 4010 Assessment 1 Collaboration and Leadership Reflection Video In the vila health scenario, this factor was missing, due to which the nursing facility faced problems. Timely and effective communication from leadership to middle management regarding implementing the EHR system could have improved outcomes. With their communication, they can be better informed about the actual needs of the nursing facility.  Patient-Centered Care Patient-centered care enhances best-practice leadership in Vila Health and EHR implementation. A study by Kwame & Petrucka (2021) presented that patient-centered care underlines
