Hypertension is one of the common chronic diseases prevalent in the older population. About 626 million women and 652 million men around the globe acquired hypertension in 2019. Hypertension has caused 8.5 million deaths due to ischemic heart, renal, stroke, and other vascular diseases (Zhou et al., 2021). Effective management and treatment of hypertension necessitates deep research into best evidence-based practices that improve the quality of life among affected patients.

Nursing staff must utilize Evidence-Based Practices (EBP) in their clinical practice to provide the best quality care to hypertensive patients. This assessment focuses on a newly recruited nurse who recently completed her orientation and needs to care for a patient suffering from hypertension for the last three years. Her goal is to provide patients with patient-centered care strengthened by evidence-based practices. Therefore, she is responsible for creating a care plan for her patient based on current research and substantiated evidence. 

Communication and Collaboration Strategies for Nurses

 As a baccalaureate-prepared nurse, I supervise clinical staff, locating effective evidence for hypertension management. For this purpose, nurse leaders must have prowess in improving communication and collaboration with novice nurses. Good communication and cooperation are necessary to guide and encourage apprentice nurses in locating authentic, credible, and effective practices for treating hypertension. Communication and collaboration can be enhanced by organizing workshops or meetings on the importance of research in nursing practice and how effective research can improve patients’ health. 

Moreover, using digital communication apps to share resources promotes the exchange of research findings among nurses, and sharing reviews digitally can be another collaboration strategy with enhanced communication. This will overcome time constraints and geographical barriers as nurses can discuss research remotely (Sharifi et al., 2021). Additionally, nurse leaders must assess the cultural background from which the novice nurse comes develop interventions accordingly to foster teamwork, and use appropriate language common to both nurses to overcome language barriers. Furthermore, delegating tasks on researching various databases can be another collaborative strategy (Campbell et al., 2020).

Nurses can also conduct meetings with interdisciplinary teams to enhance collaboration where different healthcare professionals discuss the significance of research and ways to locate the best evidence for a particular diagnosis. This will improve nurses’ knowledge as experts share their insights, foster teamwork, and strengthen nurses’ ability to access various resources (Donesky et al., 2020).  These collaboration and communication strategies build professional competence and foster positive relationships with healthcare professionals. Through this teamwork, care coordination can be ensured, and improved quality of care will be delivered, leading to improved patient care outcomes.

The Best Places to Complete Research within the Workplace

The best places for nurses to conduct research within the workplace can be laboratories equipped with computers and access to a broad range of databases and medical libraries with medical textbooks, nursing journals on hypertension, research papers on managing hypertension, and clinical guidelines. These resources can be effectively utilized to delve into current studies on hypertension and how hypertension cases are handled. Nurses can gain valuable insights and knowledge from the literature within these resources.

Additionally, meeting or conference rooms can also be used, which provide a space for interdisciplinary collaboration required to complete research. The reasons for utilizing these places within the healthcare setting are that libraries with many books on current evidence-based practices of treating hypertension will enhance nurses’ knowledge. Moreover, utilizing places within a healthcare setting can be advantageous as patient care can be immediately provided upon intricate research, reducing delays in care treatments.

The Five Credible Sources for Hypertension

While a pool of knowledge exists online, nurses must look for sound knowledge from credible sources. The five credible sources for hypertension include the website “American Heart Association,” a non-profit organization providing treatment and management strategies fortified by current evidence on heart diseases. Medical journals include the “American Journal of Hypertension,” the “Journal of the American Heart Association,” and the “Journal of Hypertension and Management”.

Furthermore, the “Centers for Disease Control and Prevention” and “World Health Organization” websites also offer authoritative information on the prevalence of hypertension and treatment guidelines. Nurse staff should consult with these sources, as they provide evidence-based knowledge and procedures to treat hypertension. Among all the five resources, the American Heart Association is the most useful for nurses seeking correct data and guidelines on hypertension diagnosis, management, and treatment (American Heart Association, 2019).

Why Should the Sources Selected Provide the Best Evidence?

The five selected sources are especially suited for providing the best evidence because they focus specifically on the issue at hand, which is hypertension. Moreover, they provide evidence-based research data that shows the effectiveness of the management approaches for hypertension. Additionally, after extensive research, healthcare professionals critically select the guidelines for hypertension diagnosis. The credibility and relevance of these sources can be evaluated by following the CRAAP criteria.

This criterion helps nurses evaluate the significance of these sources to their current diagnosis issue. The CRAAP criteria are Currency, Relevance, Authority, Accuracy, and Purpose. This criteria evaluates if the source of information is up to date, having been published within the last five years, and whether it is relevant to the subject at hand. It also assesses whether the authors are experts in the relevant field, if the conclusions are supported by evidence, and what the purpose of the published study is.The five credible sources mentioned above meet the criterion and can be utilized as an evidence-based practice for treating hypertensive patients (Muis et al., 2022).  

Conclusion

Nurse staff are the forefront caretakers, responsible for providing effective and evidence-based care treatments to patients. It is paramount for nurses to locate credible databases for finding diagnoses. This assessment focuses on how nurses, in collaboration with nurse leaders, can locate credible databases for hypertension. For this purpose, effective communication and collaboration strategies are vital to implement, encouraging nurses to research hypertension from credible resources.

Medical libraries, computer laboratories, and conference rooms with collaborators are the best places to complete this research. The five credible sources for acquiring information on hypertension include the “American Journal of Hypertension,” the “Journal of the American Heart Association,” and the “Journal of Hypertension and Management,” “Centers for Disease Control and Prevention,” and “World Health Organization”. These sources meet the CRAAP criteria of evaluating the credibility of sources and providing evidence-based practices for hypertension.
