Against this backdrop, understanding how COVID-19 affects pregnant women and their babies became a matter of urgent importance. Pregnancy is a time of unique physiological vulnerability, and the presence of a novel, potentially severe respiratory virus added layers of complexity to maternal and neonatal care. This discussion explores the effects of COVID-19 on expectant mothers, unborn children, and newborns during the antepartum (before birth) and intrapartum (during labor) stages, while also outlining preventive measures to safeguard maternal health.
