What kind of group does Tom discuss that can determine your success or failure?

In the video, Tom emphasizes the powerful influence of “reference groups” on an individual’s success or failure. These reference groups consist of the people we associate with most frequently and intimately. Tom explains that the people we surround ourselves with can significantly affect our habits, mindset, and overall life outcomes. He mentions that strong social connections not only promote happiness but also contribute to physical health and emotional resilience. I resonate with this idea because surrounding oneself with individuals who lack motivation or who carry negative energy can pull a person down, whereas being in the presence of ambitious and supportive people encourages growth and achievement. Tom also states, “You will become the combined average of the people you hang around the most,” underscoring how deeply these relationships influence one’s personal development.

How many people does he suggest to hang around and what are the three areas you and your “people” will experience together?

Tom suggests maintaining close relationships with a core group of five individuals. He notes that this group will collectively shape and influence three critical life domains: health, attitude, and income. In other words, the lifestyles, perspectives, and economic habits of these five people will likely mirror or influence your own in these areas. Surrounding yourself with individuals who practice healthy living, maintain a positive outlook, and strive for financial stability can help you embody those same values and behaviors. This concept encourages self-awareness and the intentional selection of one’s close circle in order to foster personal and professional growth.

Do you think you can identify your “people” that you spend most of your time with?

Yes, I can clearly identify the individuals with whom I spend most of my time. These include my mother, my boyfriend Felipe, and my siblings Juan, Carlos, and Maria. My mother has been a steadfast pillar in my life, especially while my father is away in Mexico. She has offered unwavering support, both emotionally and financially, and continues to encourage me in my pursuit of a nursing career. My boyfriend Felipe serves as my emotional anchor. His optimism helps me maintain calm during stressful moments, and his belief in me pushes me to keep striving for excellence. My siblings also play a vital role; whether it’s through sharing responsibilities or offering moral support, they contribute to my well-being. Together, this group has created a strong support system that motivates me to stay on track and aim higher. Above all, my parents are my biggest cheerleaders, always encouraging me to continue my education and remain focused on my goals.
