NHS FPX 5004 Assessment 4 Self-Assessment of Leadership, Collaboration, and Ethics

Student Name Capella University NHS-FPX 5004 Communication, Collaboration, and Case Analysis for Master’s Learners Prof. Name Date Introduction  Every organization follows a hierarchy where all the employees are those who can work hard to fulfill their duties by achieving the organizational goals and missions (Hajiali, et al., 2022). A leader who works hard to perform the various roles and responsibilities with a commitment to desired outcomes A leader is a role model who has certain qualities, such as ensuring that everyone in the team feels heard and understood, undertaking the diligence that is required for the task, having the ability to make critical decisions without hesitation, and taking risks when it comes to making the right decisions for the organization that benefit the organization as well as the team. This assessment aims to provide a self-evaluation that can help identify my leadership qualities, the ethical dilemmas that I have faced, and how I have overcome and learned from them. Section 1: Leadership and Collaboration Qualities in a Leadership Role Leadership Qualities and Actions In 2022, I completed my six years working as a registered nurse in the NewYork clinic for the elderly population. I have been working here for the past 6 years and have recently gotten the opportunity to lead the facilities with 50 beds and 30 nurses and assistant nurses. My responsibility as a chief nurse is to manage the whole facility while catering to issues such as staffing and turnover issues, patient and quality of care issues, policy and insurance issues, and collaboration with other health professionals and the managers in line of concern. Furthermore, I have recently taken on administrative duties such as looking at admission, insurance coverage, financial disposal, and allocation of resources. Along with these roles, I have the major responsibility of leading the whole facility, which includes providing support to my team where it is required, advocating for and helping my team, helping patients and ensuring that they receive quality care, and making sure that the patients and their families feel heard and valued while being educated regarding the treatments. Also, I have the responsibility of boosting my team’s morale, ensuring that my team feels heard and respected, helping them through conflicting situations, and encouraging their productivity. The organization is envisioned to provide effective and quality care along with the best practices that could be taken into account and to improve healthcare outcomes while having a trained and competent team by my side that can help me achieve and standardize the aimed priorities and goals of the organization. Leadership and motivational techniques Being a chief nurse comes with a lot of responsibilities and critical situations that require attention and proper handling. My go-to leadership style is a blend of authoritative, democratic, and transformational leadership styles. The aim of using a blend of so many leadership styles is to be situationally appropriate and to make sure that I have the right strategy to deal with the situation (Hussain, et al., 2017). There have been situations where I have had to engage my team members to pursue shared goals, such as quality of care concerns, so my approach to motivation and leadership was transformational. In situations where I have to provide leadership to my team, such as changes within the setup, my go-to approach is democratic. However, for financial and resource allocation, my approach is more authoritative. Thus, having a flexible leadership style gives me more space to understand and change as per my responsibilities. Also, another asset that provides me assistance in motivating my team is effective and active communication. My ability to actively communicate, address, and identify concerns allows me to become more vigilant and active. However, the collaboration between the chief nurse and the staff is one of the most significant interprofessional exchanges that are necessary for the organization to work effectively. Interprofessional collaboration and teamwork allow leaders to improve their abilities and quality of care. This collaboration aims to motivate the nurses to improve their performance levels. As a chief nurse, my job is to ensure my team’s goals are aligned with the objectives of the organization. The collaboration aims to provide direction to the team while enabling them to work effectively with other professionals. Additionally, I took steps to arrange weekly meetings with other stakeholders to establish communication among the staff by keeping everyone in the loop so that effective and better-quality care is being provided to the facility. For the patient, I have made sure that they have ways to discuss or openly raise their concerns within the facilities. thus fostering a culture of effective communication, active listening, and constant feedback to resolve their issues immediately. Meanwhile, helping the client and their families to be educated regarding care and how to manage their expressed emotions Section 2: Ethical Dilemmas Response to an Ethical Dilemma Ethical dilemmas are rather common in nursing practice. These ethical dilemmas must be resolved to maintain effective care. The code of ethics aims to assist nurse leaders. As per these codes of conduct, the nurses and their leaders tend to perform their responsibilities to provide quality care. Issues that I had to face during my career were mainly associated with turnover and adverse or near-miss events. However, as a chief nurse, the shortage of experienced staff has been my biggest concern. As per the ethical principles, it is necessary to be just to the patient while being considerate of the financial constraints of the hospital (Faubion, 2022). Therefore, to resolve the issue, I opted for an equitable, accessible, and effective healthcare system. It allowed me to develop an effective yet practical strategy for maintaining the experienced nurses and incorporating their skills into training new nurses while increasing incentives and creating a healthy environment to increase the retention rate. Similarly, another issue that I faced was associated with the adverse or near-miss events in the facility, which were deeply rooted in the lack of experienced staff. Thus, utilizing the principle of practicing with compassion and

Student Name Capella University NHS-FPX 5004 Communication, Collaboration, and Case Analysis for Master’s Learners Prof. Name Date Diversity Project Kickoff Presentation Introduction Greetings everyone, I’m Wilfrid, and today’s presentation centers on the kickoff of our Diversity Project. I extend my gratitude for your presence here today. The following discourse reflects deliberations among upper management and senior leadership concerning the initiation of our diversity project, focusing on diversity issues within Lakeland Medical Clinic. The project aims to foster a collaborative environment, ensuring the hospital achieves its objective of cultivating an inclusive and culturally accepting atmosphere for both employees and patients. Let us delve into the project’s goals and priorities. Project Goals and Priorities The Diversity Project is an endeavor aimed at amalgamating diversity and cultural sensitivity to foster understanding and establish a foundation based solely on the quality of care (LeBlanc, Sonnenberg, King, & Busari, 2020). Recognizing the significance of diversity is pivotal in comprehending the world and its inhabitants, thereby mitigating blind spots and stereotypical traits that impede access to care. Goals Priorities Interprofessional Collaboration Interprofessional collaboration hinges on implementing effective strategies to ensure project success through knowledge sharing and competency enhancement (Kotera et al., 2022). This collaboration fosters a culturally welcoming environment, facilitating conflict resolution and effective communication. Team Characteristics Key characteristics for team building include inclusivity, training, clear communication, decision-making prowess, and cultural sensitivity. These attributes enhance team cohesion and efficacy in managing diversity-related challenges. Benefits of Promoting Diversity Promoting diversity yields numerous benefits, including a diverse patient population, enhanced care quality, increased inclusivity, and enriched professional experiences. Workplace Examples Exemplary workplaces such as Mayo Clinic, CVS Health, and CDC Health demonstrate the benefits of diversity and inclusivity, fostering innovation, productivity, and improved patient outcomes. Conclusion In conclusion, the Diversity Project aims to promote inclusivity and cultural competency within our organization. Emphasis will be placed on staff training and team building to effectively manage diversity-related challenges. Collaboration among stakeholders is crucial, with policymakers, educators, financial officers, nursing leaders, and department heads playing pivotal roles. By fostering a culturally sensitive environment, we aim to enhance patient care and promote diversity within our organization. Thank you. References LeBlanc, C., Sonnenberg, L. NHS FPX 5004 Assessment 2 Leadership and Group Collaboration

Student Name Capella University NHS-FPX 5004 Communication, Collaboration, and Case Analysis for Master’s Learners Prof. Name Date Leadership and Group Collaboration Lynnette Lakeland Medical Clinic Hello Lynnette! I hope this mail finds you in the best of health. I am writing you this email in response to our discussion on the current issue and to let you know how thrilled and excited I am to help you with this. So, before starting, I would like to show my gratitude and excitement for taking on the proposed project, and I assure you that I will do my best to complete this project. I am a firm believer in the prospect that effective and efficient leadership are the key to the success of any organization, and they become key aspects of any healthcare facility to bring revolutionary changes. Therefore, I am thrilled to be a part of this project, as I believe that it is a great opportunity for me to enhance my skills while being able to grow with my organization. I feel happy that the senior management has shed light on such a sensitive topic and believe that you are right that we only see individuals’ records and qualifications, but focusing on their ability to interact with diverse populations is a key element of working at Lakeland Medical Center. I understand that you and the senior management are focused on dealing with cultural competence and diversity acceptance, and I would agree with your concerns. Cultural competence is significant for understanding an individual and their environment (Georgetown University, 2018). I believe that cultural competency allows individuals to fully comprehend the patient’s histories, how patients interpret their reality, how they communicate, what motivates them, and how we can use their cultural references to help them manage their issues (Tulane University, 2021). NHS FPX 5004 Assessment 2 Leadership and Group Collaboration Studies have highlighted that cultural competency is the ability to effectively deliver health care services that meet the social, cultural, and linguistic standards of the specific culture, which helps improve communication, ensures that the patient feels comfortable and safe, and allows the professionals to accurately disseminate accurate information without losing the meaning of the conversation in translation (Stubbe, 2020). To handle the issue of cultural competency and diversity, the learners have to open their minds to global acceptance, and a leader must be responsive to all the cultural perspectives and backgrounds of their teams as well as their patients (Nair & Adetayo, 2019). Similarly, a leader should be able to build relationships with their team and patients and create an environment of trust and success where they can all be themselves without fearing that they are being judged for belonging to a certain racial or ethnic group (Tanneau & McLoughlin, 2021). Furthermore, the key to effective leadership is effective and active communication. NHS FPX 5004 Assessment 2 Leadership and Group Collaboration A leader must be able to manage diversity and cultural competency issues and should be able to communicate effectively while keeping cultural relevance in mind. A leader must be well-read and self-critical because it is normal for individuals to not know it all (Khalili & Price, 2021). Thus, a leader needs to be competent enough to continue the process of earning and reading cultural perspectives on medication and healthcare, along with being self-critical so that if they know they cannot handle a certain case, they will refer it to a professional who is competent enough to do so. Adding to this, a leader must be aware of all of their own biases and should work on overcoming them so that they can provide better services. We can find many amazing examples in our surroundings, such as Dr. Neerja Singhe, Behavioral Clinical Director in St. Paul, Minnesota, US, who exceptionally exhibits most of the leadership characteristics listed above. Dr Singhe shows her leadership keeping in mind the cultural perspectives of the team that she leads, which make her a culturally competent leader in her field. Moreover, she is a well-read leader who does self-critisicm to improve her leadership skills and bring positive changes in her team as well. Dr Singhe and I have various similarities in our leadership qualities, for example, I am very well aware of the diversity issues, and being a part of a diverse culture, I know firsthand about the challenges and struggles associated with the healthcare system. My action of promoting inclusivity and acceptance of the diversity whereby teaching nursing staff to provide equitable care to every individual patient regardless of their social determinants is a clear example for dealing and accepting diversity. NHS FPX 5004 Assessment 2 Leadership and Group Collaboration Another similarity is that I am well-read and culturally competent, as you know from my experience dealing with different ethnic and racial groups, whereby in a similar incident where a team of 4 staff were leading a project. All of them belonged to different racial groups but were given equal chances for their representation during the project. These abilities enables me to effectively take this role and lead the project in Lakeland Clinic. However, a noticeable difference between our leadership qualities is that she is well-versed and an experienced leader whereas my leadership role will just begin with this particular project. This difference acts a a learning opportunity for me to improve in my future projects.  Also, when leading this project, I would utilize the key aspects of the transformational and team-oriented leadership styles. Transformational leader is defined as a leader who primarily motivates the team towards the project goals through charisma, motivation, intellectual stimulation, and through sharing clear vision and goals (Bakker et al., 2022), while the team-oriented leadership is focused on creating a collaborative team of professionals who have expertise in dealing with a diverse population and the leader focuses on teams’ abilities and expertise (Niinihuhta & Häggman‐Laitila, 2022). I will utilize these leadership styles along with the aforementioned leadership qualities to provide create a culturally competent and pluralistic environment where the patient and the team feel
