The pivotal role of technology in healthcare has significantly influenced perspectives on patient care, healthcare management, innovation, and the overall quality of care. Technological advancements aim to uphold and enhance existing practices, alleviate the workload of healthcare providers, and improve care quality by minimizing human errors. Electronic Medication Administration (EMAR) with Bar-code Medication Administration (BCMA) is a notable healthcare technology that contributes to enhancing healthcare quality. This selection is motivated by its direct relevance to my primary responsibility as a nurse – administering medications. EMAR with barcoding proves beneficial in our organization, facilitating effective medication management, reducing workload, and enhancing medication practices.

Nurses spend approximately 40% of their shift time on medication administration (Wondmieneh et al., 2020). Therefore, impactful technological advancements are essential to streamline care delivery and alleviate the burden on nurses. A study indicates that in 2016, 35% of medication incidents were near-miss errors, while 65% were actual errors. The introduction of EMAR with BCMA emerged as a significant intervention for medication safety (Naidu & Alicia, 2019).
